Supplemental Security Income For Aged, Blind And Disabled (SSI) (POD Rule)

SSA issued guidance for processing SSI initial claims, appeals and post-eligibility actions when an SSI claimant is married to a same-sex spouse.  SSI will look to the laws of the state where the claimant resides to determine whether the marriage is recognized for SSI purposes.  SSI will treat claimants who are in a non-marriage relationship, such as a civil union, domestic partnership or reciprocal beneficiary, as single.

Anyone who thinks they may be eligible for SSI should apply immediately to preserve their rights to benefits.
